Owl box number 1

Tawny owl box put up in woods in Grindleford, Derbyshire.
Erected 2010.
Facing south east
Height 5m

Nestbox design- Letter box type recommended by RSPB

Action in nest box
2011 -  Mandarin nested in the box. 2 dead chicks found in bottom of the box
2012 -  Tawny owl, had  1 owlet
2013 - Fitted camera with SD recorder (Bought from Maplins) hopefully get some action this year

  1. Have seen quite a bit of duck activity around the owl box over this last week, having looked at the ducks thought it was a pair of wood ducks....
    looked early yesterday morning (sat 20 april) around 7am and managed to photograph what have been identified as a pair of Mandarin Ducks. The female was in and out of the box whilst the male sat on a branch nearby, at one stage both ducks were sat on top of the owl box....

  2. Mandarin duck update.... have set up the cctv camera tonight and found 12 duck eggs in the owl box..... more photos to follow.

  5. NOT LOOKING VERY GOOD IN THE OWL BOX FOR THE MANDARIN EGGS AS MRS MANDARIN HAS NOT BEEN SEEN IN OR AROUND THE BOX FOR SOMETIME.
